Shirley Ann (Braxton) Brinson, 85, of Early, Texas passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023.

A celebration of Life service will be held at Heartland Funeral Home, 2 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2023.

Shirley was born September 23, 1937 in Evergreen, Alabama and raised in Florida.  Shirley married Clyde Brinson, the love of her life and they settled in DeLeon, Texas. Shirley worked at the Weeping Oak Drive-in in DeLeon and later owned the Hwy 6 Café with Clyde.  They lived in Red River, NM for a short while and owned the Chief Burger café there, but her greatest work was being a homemaker and Nana.  Shirley had a green thumb and would care for her plants as if they were telling her what they needed.  She could keep anything green and vibrant.  Shirley never met a stranger and always open to a cup of coffee and conversation.  A trait she carried with her until the end, the friends at CARE Nursing dubbed her the Mayor of CARE as she was always greeting everyone and checking on patients. Everyone fell in love with Shirley due to her impact on them with her giving nature, huge heart and quick wit. She loved her family, her friends, special friends, her fur babies and the family at CARE Nursing with all of her heart.

Shirley is survived by her sons, John Vaughn and wife, Evelyn of Teague, Bobby and wife Terri of Early, Rick Brinson of Austin & Danny Brinson of Austin; grandchildren, Marsha Siha, Hunter Brinson, Hallie Brinson, Mike Vaughn, Crystal Vaughn, Sean Brinson & Emalee Brinson; many great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and pets.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Brinson; a son, Michael Vaughn; and a daughter, Sherry Lentz.

Shirley’s family would like to express a special gift of thanks to the staff and patients of CARE Nursing for their friendship and care of their mother and grandmother, it blessed their hearts.
