Doris Faye (Dykes) Purcell, age 87, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in Brownwood.
Funeral Services for Faye will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul Blake officiating; burial will follow at the Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Faye was born on March 16, 1935, to Willie Vera West and William Noah Dykes in Presidio, Texas. While attending Bangs High School, Faye met the love of her life, James “Homer” Purcell. They were married on July 18, 1952, in Grosvenor, Texas; to this union, four children were born. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. Faye and Homer lived in several cities in Texas and in New Mexico before moving to Bangs in 1972. Faye was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Faye was a homemaker and had the gift of hospitality. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family for holidays and birthdays. She always made everyone feel welcome in her home. Faye loved listening to Homer sing and play his guitar. Faye could always grow the prettiest plants and flowers. She enjoyed birdwatching, genealogy, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Homer Purcell; a grandson, Scotty Purcell; her son-in-law, Thomas Chrane, Sr.; three brothers, Donald Dykes, Tommy Dykes, and Bobby Dykes; two sisters, Betty Dykes Duncan and Mary Dykes Dooley.
Faye is survived by her children, Connie Chrane, Vickie Childress and husband Waymon, Johnny Purcell and wife Kim, and Jeannie Hubbard and husband Charles; 14 grandchildren: Brenda Michael and husband Wes, Rebekah Bianco, Tommy Chrane and wife Mandy, Lydia Huggins, Corrie Childress, Joanna Childress, Beth Childress, Katie Childress, Theo Childress, Gidget McCrary and husband Dusty, Dawn Massey and husband Chad, Jesse Knight and wife Misti, Austin Hubbard and wife Shylee, and Amelia McGinty and husband Nathan. Faye is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Pat Allen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Chrane, Austin Hubbard, Theo Childress, Nathan McGinty, Wes Michael, and Collin Michael.
The family would like to give special thanks to Sherry, Essie, and the staff at Oak Ridge Manor for the care they gave to Faye.
The family requests that memorials be made to Concord Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
