A man from Early, Texas was killed and another person injured in a two vehicle crash which happened at 6:52 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
According to an updated crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck happened 7.6 miles north of May, Texas on U.S. Highway 183. Killed in the wreck was William Mark Calhoun, 70, of Early. Calhoun was the driver of a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick 4-door sports utility vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle was Rhonda Hart Calhoun, 66, of Early. She had non-incapacitating injuries, stable condition, transported to Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood.
The other vehicle was a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze four door passenger car, driven by Dylan James Pruitt, 21, of May, Texas. He had non-incapacitating injury, was treated and released.
Preliminary investigation by the DPS revealed that both vehicles were traveling south on Highway 183 with the Chevy Cruze following the Suzuki in the right lane. The driver of the Cruze failed to control the speed of the vehicle and struck the Suzuki from behind, causing the driver to lose control after the collision and rolled over, ejecting the driver.
Weather conditions were clear, road condition dry. The crash was investigated by Trooper Troy H. Erichsen, Texas Highway Patrol, Brownwood.
