Juventino “Tino” Hernandez Barrera, age 88, of Brady, Texas passed away peacefully Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home surrounded by the love of his six children and their families.
Tino, as he was known by his family and friends, was born May 7, 1934 in Brady, Texas to Santos Barrera Jr. and Trinidad (Hernandez) Barrera. He grew up in Brady and married the one and only love of his life, Natalia “Nellie” Rubio on December 5, 1954 in Brady. They were blessed to enjoy 66 years of wonderful marriage. He often described his wife as his beautiful angel on earth. Tino was a master electrician and began his career working for Wolfe Electric in Brady. He went on to work for Bill Dodds Electric for 15 years, McCartey for 27 years, as well as the Wiese Corporation for more than 10 years. He was a lifelong resident of Brady and member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed building and creating things from whatever scratch materials he had on hand. He was famous for building intricate bird condos. He loved tending and working in his yard. He enjoyed relaxing days on the lake fishing on his boat with his wife, Nellie. He truly enjoyed taking long relaxing road trips with his beautiful wife, whether it was across the country or packing a picnic basket and taking a day trip driving the back roads of Melvin, Lohn, Voca and Doole reminiscing of their life together. He was a jack of all trades and could build or fix most anything. He was a man of few words, but the words he did share were a special kind of wisdom that only he possessed. His sense of humor was legendary with his family and friends. His biggest passion was his family. At family gatherings, Nellie would look around at her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and turn to Tino and say with love and pride in her voice “Look what we created!” Providing for and loving his family was his first priority and was reflected in everything he did.
