Onice Jessie “O.J.” McGuffin, age 92, of Eden, Texas passed away Friday, October 14, 2022 at his residence in Eden, Texas. “O.J.”, as he was known to by most, was born November 24, 1929 in Eden, Texas to Arthur A. McGuffin and Grace Lee (Cloud) McGuffin.  He grew up in Eden and spent most of his life there.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He married Delores Marie Walker on March 9, 1957 in Roswell, New Mexico.

O.J. worked for Lone Star Gas for 30 years before joining Sanford Construction as a partner, constructing underground gas utilities for Lone Star Gas. He also owned and operated Eden Septic Service for several years as well as assisting his son Tracy in operating Eden Plumbing & Heating.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting turkey and deer, especially when he got to take one of his grandkids with him.  He loved the horse races!  He and Marie made a trip to Louisiana Downs every year.  In more recent years, he enjoyed going to Fredericksburg.  Nothing interfered with his trips to the track.  Anytime one of his good friends offered for him to tag along, whether it be to Hobbs, New Mexico, San Antonio or Winstar, he was always ready for a road trip.  Some of his most memorable trips in life were getting to go to Alaska with his family and being able to attend several of his grandchildren’s graduations and weddings.  He loved going down to the “swimming hole” to go fishing.  He enjoyed cracking pecans and crushing aluminum cans.  He was a big Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers Fan.  He was a member of the Eden VFW Post #8549 and recently recognized as Concho County’s last surviving Korean War Veteran.

A Celebration of Life with military honors for Onice Jessie “O.J.” McGuffin will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Roy Burnes Civic Center, 1307 West Broadway in Lee Pfluger Park in Eden, Texas with Will Alan Loveless officiating.  Interment will be at the Eden Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may view O.J’s Memorial Video Tribute and/or sign his online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Burnes, Vernon Smith, Jimmy Hollon, Roger Saucedo, Floyd Sparks, Mike Watkins, Charles Hurst and Tate Riley.
