The San Diego Padres came back from behind to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies with a score of 8-5 in Game 2 of the NLCS, evening the series 1-1 . The Phillies held a lead for nearly half of the game, but the Padres rallied in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs to retake the lead and never look back.
The National League Championship Series will resume in Philadelphia on Friday at Citizens Bank Park at 7:37 p.m. ET. Scheduled starting pitchers are Phillies lefty Ranger Suárez and the Padres Joe Musgrove.
In the American League, the Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees, 4-2, in Game 1 of the ALCS on Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park. The Astros lead the best-of-seven series 1-0, and are hoping to make it back to the World Series for the fourth time since 2017. The Astros’ Justin Verlander shut down the Yankees’ offense, giving up one run in six innings and striking out 11.
The Yankees will turn to Luis Severino in Game 2, facing off against the Astros’ left-hander Framber Valdez. Game 2 will take place in Houston on Thursday at 7:37 p.m.
