Margaret Jane Landreth Wilson, 94, passed away peacefully at 8 AM on Sunday morning October 16 at Hendricks Hospital in Brownwood, TX.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 19 at 4 PM at Heartland Funeral Home – 303 Early Blvd. in Early. There will be a brief tribute at 5:30 pm at the end of the visitation.
Margaret was born to Ray and Irene Landreth on February 19, 1928 in Brownwood. She grew up in Dallas where her father was a banker and her mother was active in family and church functions. After graduating from North Dallas High School, she attended Abilene Christian College where she met her future soulmate, Dee Wilson, a returning WW2 veteran. They were married September 2, 1948 in Abilene. By 1952, they had moved to Van Horn in far west Texas. In the early days of their 65 years together, Dee was a farmer/rancher and Margaret was his partner in raising their three children, Jim, Jane, and Kerry. In those years, she worked at home, then as a school secretary, then later as a legal secretary. With Dee’s career change to selling insurance for Texas Farm Bureau. In ‘74, they moved to Cisco, TX. In the late 70’s, Margaret & Dee worked together daily as they owned & operated the Montgomery Ward catalog store in Eastland.
Following the sale of the business, Dee returned to his insurance career until he retired and they moved to “the Ranch” southeast of Rising Star. In 2007, with Dee’s health beginning to decline, they moved to a new home in Ridgewood Gardens in Early, TX.
Wherever they lived, Margaret and Dee were always devoted followers of Jesus and members of the Church of Christ. They always had many friends because of their genuine concern for the welfare of others and their constant practice of the the gift of hospitality.
After Dee’s passing in 2014, Margaret lived in their home quite independently for the rest of her days.
Margaret is survived by her son Jim & his wife, Susan. Also, by her daughter, Jane and her husband, Rick and her son, Kerry and his wife, Lori.
She was blessed with and loved her six grandchildren and their spouses and also twelve great grandchildren.
Margaret will be remembered as a faithful friend to many. She actively supported her local church, domestic & foreign missions, World Bible School. Rather than any expenditures on flowers or other remembrances, Margaret would ask that contributions be made to Cherokee Children’s Home because of her long-time relationship there.
Per her wishes, on Thursday October 20, there will be a private graveside service at Amity Cemetery.
The family thanks everyone for all their love and encouragement through this sad but joyous exit to a life well lived.
