Suzanne Rae Reyes, age 68, of Brownwood went to her Heavenly home Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Harris Methodist Hospital, Ft. Worth surrounded in love by her family.
A Celebration of Life for Suzanne will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Suzanne Rae Berthiaume was born to Francis and Dorothy (Arbogast) Berthiaume on October 24, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN. Sue was born 2 months premature and weighed in at just 4 lbs; this would be the only time in her life she would ever be early for anything. Despite having been a preemie and born with a heart murmur in 1953, she beat the odds and overcame many obstacles both personal and health wise in her lifetime.
When she was 16 years old, while working for a canning factory in Wisconsin, she met the love of her life, a 16-year-old boy from Uvalde, TX, Ruben Reyes. They were practically inseparable after that. They married on November 11, 1978. From this love, they had 4 children: Vanessa, Raquel, Tony and John. There was also a 5th little bundle of joy on the way in 1981 that unfortunately never made it to earth before gaining its little angel wings.
Suzanne’s family often jokes that she was a “career student” as she did spend a large part of her adulthood in earning not only her GED but also a degree in business and multiple degrees in nursing including a master’s degree which led her to become a nurse practitioner in 2017. She was an accomplished student and an amazing nurse. She began her nursing career in 1991 when she graduated with honors from Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde with her LVN certification. She worked for Ranger Inn Nursing Home in Santa Anna for a time as well as Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood. She spent the next 25 years of her career at Brownwood Regional Medical Center as an LVN. While working full time and raising a family, eventually becoming an RN. She worked all over that hospital but spent the majority of those years in the Recovery Room. In 2018, after obtaining her license as a family nurse practitioner she went to work for Accel Health until March of 2021. Suzanne never stopped learning and she was currently working on her psychiatric nurse practitioner certification at the time of her passing.
To know our mom was to love her…she was quiet and reserved but she was also secretly funny, sarcastic and full of sass! And, if you got to see this side of her, she truly considered you family or a true friend.
Suzanne is survived by so many friends and family. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Vanessa Roman and Raquel Reyes; sons, Tony Reyes, John Reyes and his wife Casie; ten grandchildren: Dora, Juan, Maggie, Angelica, Shane, Sophia, Izayiah, Aiden, Lauren and Max Elizabeth; and 1 great-grandchild, Raelynn; 3 brothers, Sheldon Green, Scott Berthiaume, and Gerald Green; and 2 sisters, Frances Martinez and Karen Owens. She is also survived by a son-in-law, Eddie Roman; as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other extended family members. She’s also survived by her special fur babies: dogs, Muttley and Rocky; kitties, Roxy and Mama Kitty; her horse, Diablo and her pet goat, Taco.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben; her parents; baby #5, and multiple other family members who have no doubt welcomed her to Heaven with open arms.
We the family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and the amazing staff at the Cardiac Unit, CU1 at Harris Methodist Hospital both in Fort Worth, for seeing us through the difficult task of letting go of this magnificent lady… we couldn’t have done it without all of them.
