The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Friday morning:

On Monday, October 4, 2021, criminal investigators with the Brownwood Police Department received information from a law enforcement agency in Alabama that a 14-year-old runaway juvenile from their jurisdiction was possibly in our city.  The Alabama authorities believed that the juvenile female was possibly in the company of John David Twomey.

Investigators and officers went to a south Brownwood home where they contacted Twomey.  While speaking with him, they learned that the runaway juvenile was present in the home.  Further investigation revealed that Twomey met the juvenile online and traveled to Alabama on October 1st where he picked her up and brought her to Brownwood.  Interviews were conducted and it was learned that during the time that Twomey and the juvenile were together he engaged in sexual acts with the juvenile on multiple occasions.

In December 2021, Twomey was extradited to Alabama to face charges there and returned sometime afterwards.  On October 12, 2022, Twomey was arrested by our agency for a warrant for Aggravated Kidnapping with a Deadly Weapon in connection with the original case.  Twomey remains in the Brown County Jail on bonds totaling over $200,000.
