Stanley “Rick” Frakes, age 77, of Early went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Hendricks Medical Center Brownwood surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life for Rick will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Grosvenor Baptist Church with David Barnum and Don Fawcett officiating; a private family interment will be held at a later date at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Stanley “Rick” Wayne Frakes was born on April 23, 1945, to Floyd and  Gwendolyn (Knowles) Frakes in Borger, Texas.  After high school at 17, he joined the US Navy and served for the next four years. He served on the USS Turner Joy and was decorated for his involvement in the Tonkin Gulf.

Following his military service, Rick traveled and lived in many different places. In 1978 he moved to Brownwood and began his lifelong career as a truck driver. This is where he met and married the love of his life, Betty Lou Anderson, on October 18, 1980. Rick drove a truck for the next 33 years. If you were ever lost, all you had to do was call Rick and tell him what mile marker you were at, and he could get you back on track.

Rick was a member of Grosvenor Baptist Church and loved his church family dearly. Rick loved pulling his kids and grandkids all over the lake on a tube, reading western books, or watching old westerns on tv.  He loved bingo, lottery tickets, or a trip to Winstar. Rick could always be found helping someone; whether it was mowing a lawn, giving a ride, moving someone, or fixing a car, you could count on Rick to be there. He loved his family and friends and was the best husband, dad, PaPa, and friend there was.

Rick is survived by his wife of 42 years Betty; four sons, Michael Frakes and wife Lori of Chico, CA, Danny Frakes and wife Charlene of Riverside, CA Shannon “Scooter” Sweeney and wife Beth of Rockford, IL, and Ricky Frakes of Round Rock; five daughters, Cynthia Satterfield and husband Jerry of Early, Tonia Pierce and husband Will of San Saba, Elizabeth Bell and husband Vincent of Rockford, IL, Kristie Durham of Early, and Reba Mains of Early; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard “Dickey” Frakes of Claremore, OK, adopted brother Jim Gebhart and wife Connie of Fort Worth; two sisters, Linda Chastain of Bandera, Carolyn Scott and husband Matthew of Irving.  He is also survived by his best friend, Frank Reed and wife Belinda of Port Aransas; many nieces and nephews, and a ton of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gwendolyn Walstrom and Floyd Frakes; brothers, Donald Frakes, Raymond Frakes, and Roger Lemons; sisters, Pat Barnes, Sandra Estes, and Ruth Ann Gandy.
