Citizens National Bank is hosting a Grand Reopening Celebration today (Thursday) until 3:00 pm. A ribbon cutting with the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Early Chamber of Commerce was held at 10:00 am in front of the bank building in downtown Brownwood, at 1 Carnegie Street. Over the course of the past year, the bank has undergone a complete remodel, both inside and outside.
Those attending also enjoyed refreshments and tours of the bank building renovation through the morning hours.
“It’s a great day to be in the neighborhood. I want to thank each and everyone of you very much for coming today to see what we call our new bank,” said Calvin Fryar, Chairman of the Board.
“I feel like we’re making history here today,” said John P. Guest, Chief Executive Officer. “Our bank has a lot of history behind it. Our bank actually started in 1906, right down this street, over on Center. It’s now known as the Krischke building. Then, in 1929, we moved down the street right down here on Lee and it was located there from ’29 until we moved here in 1980,” Guest said.
Also speaking was Emily Crawford, Brownwood City Manager.
“On behalf of Mayor Haynes and the City Council, I want to say congratulations. This is a fantastic addition, or renewal, of a historic and legacy partner for the City of Brownwood. Thank you for investing in our community. Anytime a homeowner or business invests in their property, they make all of Brownwood better and you have completely renovated this corner, it looks tremendous,” Crawford said, adding it compliments other renovations such as the Timmins building and the Coliseum.
Citizens National Bank, Brownwood’s only home-owned independent bank, has invested significantly in downtown Brownwood. Citizens’ roots go from 1883 to the mercantile store, “Coggin Brothers and Ford Bank,” which later evolved into the Citizens National Bank. It was last chartered on September 28th, 1934.
