Amon Owen Benson, 94 of Brownwood passed away peacefully at his home on September 13, 2022, to rejoin the love of his life Joyce Benson who passed away July 15th, 2018.
He was born March 15, 1928, to James Benson and Cora Rogers Benson in Gustine. Amon and Joyce met and fell in love then married on December 23,1948. Amon worked in road construction all over the state of Texas and at the Brick Yard in Brownwood until 1964 when he started his job as a heavy equipment operator at Whites Mines (now known as Vulcan Materials) for 30 years until he retired in April of 1994.
Amon and Joyce loved to travel to other states in their travel trailer always taking their beloved pugs Mindy and Mika with them. They especially loved visiting Branson, Missouri and got to know several of the singers in the shows they visited. He enjoyed going fishing when he had the time, piddling in his shop, and he loved planting his garden and working in it but he really enjoyed giving away most of what he planted to friends and family because he always planted way to much of everything. He was a kind and gentle soul who was always willing to help anyone that needed help whether it was family or friends. Amon will be greatly missed by all that crossed paths with him.
He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Gotcher of Brownwood, and Brenda Powell and husband Roy of Gatesville; three grandchildren, Melissa Phillips and husband David of Early, Randy Powell and wife Chelsea of Gatesville, and Scotty Gotcher of Brownwood; five great-grandchildren, Collin Phillips and wife Katlin of Omaha, Nebraska, Zoe Phillips and Trevor Phillips of Early, and Rowan and Sage Powell of Gatesville, and one great-great-grandchild, Rylee Phillips of Omaha, Nebraska, along with many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Benson; parents, James Benson and Cora Rogers Benson; four brothers, Walter Benson, Odell Benson, Gene Benson, and George Benson and two sisters; Eva Nell Ingram and Vivian Linville.
Family will receive friends at Heartland Funeral Home on, Sunday Sept. 18, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
