Ella Louise “Cookie” (Meyer) Cooper, 82, of Brownwood

Ella Louise “Cookie” Cooper, age 82, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Brownwood.

Private Family Services for Ella will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Cookie was born to Eugene A. Meyer and June Elizabeth (Norman) Meyer on June 12th, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas. Cookie attended Catholic Schools in San Antonio and graduated from Providence High School in 1958. She continued her education at the University of Houston earning a degree in education in 1962.

Cookie began her teaching career at Smiley High School in Northeast Houston ISD. After relocating to Odessa, in 1967, she began coaching and teaching at Nimitz Junior High in the Ector County ISD school district. Cookie touched the lives of thousands of students who came through her classes over her career that spanned more than thirty years. She remained at Nimitz until her retirement in 1996. After retirement she relocated to Brownwood where she remained until her passing.

Cookie loved all animals and regularly fed the deer and birds. She had many pets during her lifetime that she loved liked family.  She loved to garden and enjoyed identifying wildflowers along the roadside. Cookie loved Christmas time and decorating her home for the holidays. She was also an avid reader and kept her home filled with books.

Cookie is survived by her brother, E.A. “Tony” Meyer and his wife Elaine of Floresville; nieces, Denise High of Bel Air, Maryland, Debra Bowers of Conroe, and Donna Meyer of Montgomery, Texas; and her nephew, Eugene Anthony III of Long Island, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and June.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ASPCA or to the memorial scholarship fund at Ector County ISD.
