Randy Turner will be the new voice of Brownwood Lions football this season, joining analyst Scott McDaniel, sideline reporter Michael Richardson and statistician Derrick Stuckly as the 2022 KOXE broadcast crew.

Turner is a native of Coleman, and previously broadcast Coleman Bluecats football for the KOXE internet station. His radio background includes many years in Coleman with other stops in Abilene, Breckenridge, and Marble Falls.

Turner joined KOXE/KBWD in the Spring of 2019 as News Director and Chief Meteorologist, providing local news on the radio as well as the station website and social media platforms.  Duties also include severe weather coverage for the Central Texas area.

Turner has also served as the play-by-play commentator for hundreds of high school and college football, basketball, baseball, and softball games. He was also the stadium announcer for McMurry football in Abilene for many years.

Turner also has a background of news and weather reporting in the Abilene television market where he served as both News Anchor and Chief Meteorologist for the NBC affiliate and, prior to that, Chief Meteorologist for the CBS affiliate.

“Randy is a true professional at everything that he does. We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber in Brownwood,” said Mitchell Dillard, President of Brown County Broadcasting Company. “I have no doubt that he will do a great job for our station and the Brownwood Lions fans.”

Turner is stepping into the role held last season by former KOXE radio personality Carl Wayne, who has left his position at the station after 15 years due to medical issues, and previously by Dallas Huston, the Hall of Fame ‘Voice of the Lions’ for 58 years.

“It is an honor to be selected to be the next radio play-by-play voice of the Brownwood Lions,” Turner said. “I appreciate the rich history and tradition of Brownwood High and of this position. I will do my very best and look forward to joining Scott McDaniel, Derrick Stuckly and Michael Richardson for Brownwood versus Abilene Wylie this Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.”

Friday nights on KOXE will feature non-stop football from 6 p.m. to midnight. The Pigskin Pick ‘Em Show with Randy Turner, Scott McDaniel and Derrick Stuckly starts the action, followed by Dallas Huston’s game preview and Mike Blagg’s pre-game interview with Lions head football coach Sammy Burnett.

Following the game broadcast, the post-game show will feature audio highlights, stats, and interviews with Coach Burnett and select Lions.

The evening culminates with the Dr. Pepper High School Football Scoreboard show, hosted by Mike Blagg, Shawn Jowers and a variety of guests.

Brown County Broadcasting will be airing Brownwood Lions football for the 82nd consecutive year.
