SWEETWATER – The City of Sweetwater announced Wednesday that Dewey Coy has accepted the position of Chief of Sweetwater Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
Chief Dewey Coy began his career in 1989 with the Zephyr Volunteer Fire Department in Zephyr, Texas. In 1998, Chief Coy joined the Jacksonville Fire Department in Jacksonville, Arkansas where he earned the rank of Battalion Chief. In December 2020, Chief Coy retired after 22 years of service.
“We are excited that Chief Coy is coming to Sweetwater to become our next fire chief,” David A. Vela, City Manager said. “He has the experience, dedication and know-how to come in and do great things for our department and our community. We welcome Chief Coy and stand ready to assist him in making his transition to Sweetwater go as smoothly as possible. Congratulations to him and his family.”
Chief Coy is originally from Snyder and graduated from Zephyr High School in Zephyr, Texas. In 2006, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. In 2009, he received his Master’s Degree in Management & Leadership and Human Resource Development from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.
“The men and women of the Sweetwater Fire Department and Ambulance Service that I have met are top-notch personnel,” Chief Coy said. “I may have been selected as the new Fire Chief, but these individuals truly are the ones who keep the machine moving forward. I am honored to serve alongside each of them as we fulfill our mission as a fire and EMS department.”
Chief Coy will begin his duties on August 1, 2022.
