An exciting new school year is quickly approaching, and Northwest Elementary School will be welcoming students with a new principal, added grade levels, and a renewed spirit of academic excellence. “I am blessed by God with the chance to build new relationships with the awesome staff and students at Northwest,” said Principal Dee Dee Wright. “I can’t wait to provide multiple opportunities to help our students become the best they can be and have success in academics and social/emotional well-being. We are in the business of serving others and our students come first!”

The 2022-2023 school year will mark Wright’s 34th year in education. She is a Tarleton University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Education degree, Counseling Certification and Principal Certification. Wright has also attended the Region 6 Superintendent’s academy and holds a Superintendent’s Certification. “I have some experience under my belt, but every day is a great day to learn something new,” said Wright. “I am excited to learn and grow with my students and staff and be the very best leader I can be.”

This is Wright’s fourth year serving as a principal in Brownwood. “I started at East Elementary and worked with my East family for three amazing years,” said Wright, whose academic accountability and relationships-first approach helped earn East a nomination as an Exemplary High-Performing Blue Ribbon school. “I am looking forward to enriching our students at Northwest with rigorous learning, character goals, and leadership opportunities, and I look forward to working with our parents, so our students know we are all working together to meet their needs.”

The leadership at Northwest also includes Assistant Principal Bucky Bates. “This is his fourth year to serve this campus,” noted Wright. “Mr. Bates and I plan on working together to create a strong culture that shines light on our mission of making a positive difference in the lives of children every day! We believe it is also important to support our teachers and give them the necessary resources to do what they do best: teach and inspire our students to reach their potential.”

As Brownwood ISD works toward the completion of Project Neighborhood, the campus located at 311 Bluffview Dr. will now host PK-5th grade classes, and Northwest Elementary is taking advantage of the changes. ”I plan on parental involvement opportunities and leadership roles for all of our students but especially our 4th and 5th grade students,” said Wright. “We have some new staff members joining our Northwest family and I know they will bring with them enthusiasm and new ideas which will contribute to our goal of academic excellence.”

With all the new faces and strong leadership under Wright and Bates, Northwest Elementary students have plenty to look forward to. “We are excited to meet and greet our students and parents at Popsicles with Principals in the park on August 2nd,” said Wright. “Our parents and students can expect to experience high energy and a lot of love at Northwest. We pride ourselves in holding everyone accountable for the great learning that is ahead of us in 2022-2023! It is time to believe that you are a winner and champion at Northwest Elementary! It’s going to be a great year!”
