Sonny Throckmorton is a legendary country music songwriter with over 1,000 published songs performed by artists such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Jerry Lee Lewis and the Oak Ridge Boys to name a few.
The KOXE listening area will be able to enjoy an ‘Evening with Sonny Throckmorton’ at The Lyric Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25.
Throckmorton, 81, helped write county classics such as Merle Haggard’s “The Way I Am,” Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Middle Age Crazy,” George Strait’s “The Cowboy Rides Away,” and The Judds’ 1984 ACM Song of the Year, “Why Not Me.”
In 2018, Throckmorton and his daughter Debbie co-wrote “Ride Me Back Home” for Willie Nelson, which won a Grammy.
In 1985, Throckmorton was inducted into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame
On Aug. 24, Throckmorton with receive The Academy of Country Music’s exclusive “Poet’s Award is presented to a Country Music songwriter for outstanding and longstanding musical and/or lyrical contributions throughout their career, with special consideration given to a song or songs’ impact on the culture of Country Music.
Tickets are reserved seating only $25. Proceeds for this show go to benefit Throckmorton’s great grandson Lincoln Anderson on his journey and fight through Type I Diabetes.
