Glendon ‘Glen’ Wayne Nethery, age 73, of Brownwood passed away June 1, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer and reconstruction surgery.
Services will be held at Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood on Tuesday, June 7, at 10 a.m. with Bill Slaymaker officiating.
Graveside military services will be held at Zephyr Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 6, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Glen was born November 8, 1948, in Vernon, Texas to Glendon Nethery Sr. and Martha (Lack) Nethery. He graduated from Woodrow High School in Lubbock, Texas, then joined the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam and South East Asia, and was later stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. He joined the Texas Army National Guard on September 18, 1985, until his retirement on May 31, 2002. Glen also worked at NCR, Sims, and retired from Kohler after many years.
Glen married Charla (Cabler) Means on August 28, 1990. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he loved furnishing the burgers and being the chief hamburger cook for their events like the Fall Fest. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3278 where he helped cook for the monthly fish fry that raises money for local charities. He shared a birthday with his only grandchild, Karissa Means. He was always supportive of Karissa’s activities and ideas, whether it be midnight card games under the carport with the neighborhood kids, a garden, or continued maintenance and upkeep on the pool installed just for her and her friends.
Glen is survived by his wife Charla; son Gerald Nethery; son Bruce Means and wife Tammy; granddaughter Karissa Means; great-grandson Antonio Gallegos; step-mother Dee Nethery; brother Benny Gray and wife Judy; brother Mike Nethery and wife Charlotte; sister Debbie Nataneti; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Glendon Nethery Sr., mother Martha Gray and step-father Cecil Gray.
