Members of North Lake Community Church in May, Texas honored the employees of May ISD Tuesday with special presentations made to three retiring educators in May.

Steve and Laura Howard are retiring at the end of this school year and were presented gifts from NLCC.  They have served May ISD for 27 years.  Steve has served as superintendent for the last five of those 27 years.  Susan Edwards, teacher, was also honored with a gift to thank her for 16 years of service to the May ISD.

Each school employee heard their name called, one by one, to come forward to receive a small gift of appreciation from members of North Lake Community Church.

“Several Sunday’s ago, I preached a sermon and one of the scriptures I used was Psalms 17:8 which says you’re the apple of my eye.  And I said I wonder if anybody still takes apples to their teachers like we used to,” said Pastor Ron Keener of North Lake Community Church.

Church members Barbara Clay and Linda Lemond headed up an effort to get the apples from United Supermarket (which were donated by United) and attach the scripture Psalms 17:8 to each one to be given to May ISD employees.

“We as a church, trying to always think of ways we can honor people, love people, recognize people in the name of Jesus, and be Christ like, as opposed to being so negative and ugly and cynical, as our culture is, we want to be positive, we want to be involved, we wanted to do something that says to this school, we are here for  you and want to express our love and support to each of you,” Keener said.

Students from May elementary through high school gathered in the school gymnasium for the special presentations.
