The Brownwood Lady Lions took down a playoff-bound Stephenville team 8-5 Friday night to get their only win of the district softball season.

The Lady Lions finished the season with a 9-15 overall record and 1-7 mark in district, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of third inning, the Lady Lions surged in front with four runs during the frame. The inning began with consecutive singles by Chloe Walls, Annie-Klein Allgood and Mia Lopez, the third of which allowed Brownwood to close the gap to 4-3. Cecilia Rodriguez followed with the fourth straight base hit of the inning, which plated Allgood with the tying run. Tynlea Wilson followed with an RBI sacrifice fly that drove in Lopez with the go-ahead run. Chelsey Covey and Hailey Eisenhauer then reached on consecutive errors, which allowed Rodriguez to come home with the sixth run.

Leading 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lopez delivered a two-out, two-RBI single that scored Walls and Jeniffer Romero, who extended the frame with a pair of walks.

Brownwood trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, but drew even thanks to consecutive singles from Walls and Allgood, followed by an RBI ground out by Rodriguez that plated Walls and a wild pitch that permitted Allgood to come home.

In the circle, Allgood yielded six hits and left three base runners stranded, as Brownwood committed four errors in the field.

Friday’s game closed out the high school softball careers for Allgood, Eisenhauer and Marian Soto.
