Rodney Wilson, age 87, of Zephyr passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at home surrounded by family.
Celebration of Life for Rodney will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Looby officiating. Private interment will follow at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Rodney was born on March 23, 1935, to Orbie and Leva Mae (Eoff) Wilson at his grandmother’s house in Blanket. He graduated from Blanket High School in 1953. After high school, he served in the United States Navy Reserve from July 1953 to September 1957, then he served in the U.S. Army from September 1957 to September 1959.
Rodney married the love of his life, Mary Haynes, on August 23, 1957, in Comanche County. After his time in the military, they moved to Midland where he worked in the oil industry for 40 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Acacia 1414 in Midland, Shriners, Blanket Lion’s Club, and Blanket First Baptist Church.
When Rodney retired, he and Mary moved Zephyr where his work never really stopped. He kept himself busy raising longhorns and working on their farm, which is what he enjoyed. He also considered himself a “Mr. Fix-It”, tinkering and fixing anything he came across that needing fixing.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Wilson of Zephyr; 4 children, Ann Ortiz of Midland, Samuel Wilson of Zephyr, Susan Cowdery of Blanket, and Haynes Wilson of Weatherford; 2 grandchildren, Mattie Cowdery of Bangs and Garry Cowdery of Stephenville; 1 great-granddaughter, Savannah Reanue; brother, Lavon Wilson and wife Judy of Weatherford; and sister, Marilyn Elrod and husband Bo of Comanche. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Orbie and Leva Mae Wilson; brother, Jimmy Wilson; and sister, Agatha Edgar.
