Brown County Precinct 2 Commissioner Joel Kelton provided an update on the Oak Mott wildfire near May area as of approximately 1 p.m. Friday.
According to Kelton, the fire had stalled, and firefighters were trying to establish a perimeter. The fire is considered controlled but not contained. One forest service helicopter was dropping water.
At least four structures were lost and there is the likelihood more will be discovered.
“I’ve been in a lot of fires, and this is the wildest fire I’ve ever seen,” Kelton said. “It’s very brushy and very thick back here. It’s not an easy fire to contain.”
Current estimates are the fire has burned from 6,000 to 10,000 acres.
