Friday Morning Update – Eastland Co. Fire at 39,883 Acres

As of 5:30 am this morning (Friday) the Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Information report shows that the Eastland Complex Fire in Eastland County is an estimated 39,883 acres in size and only 2% contained.

Four wildfires are included in the Eastland Complex Fire.  

Oak Mott Fire – estimated 4,500 acres

Walling Fire – estimated 383 acres

Kidd Fire – estimated 30,000 acres

Wheat Field Fire – estimated 5,000 acres

The Crews Gap Fire in Coleman/Runnels County is now an estimated 7,500 acres in size and is back to 80% containment early Friday morning.  At midnight this morning, Highway 153 reopened to normal traffic in both directions into and through the community of Glen Cove and residents of Glen Cove were given the okay to return home after mandatory evacuations were required Thursday afternoon.

The forecast for today – Mostly sunny and windy.  Northwest to north wind at 15-25 mph, gusting to 30.  High near 66 at mid-afternoon today.  Humidity is forecast to drop to near 20% between 4 and 7 pm today.  The high temperature this afternoon will be 20 degrees cooler than yesterday.
