Brown County firefighters were battling numerous wildfires across the area late Thursday afternoon. One is in northern Brown County, north of May, at Highway 183 and CR 496. Another grass fire was reported near Bangs on CR 165 while a third fire was on Highway 279 just north of Lake Brownwood.

In Coleman County, mandatory evacuations were given for the small community of Glen Cove, located on Highway 153 in western Coleman County. High wind fanned the still smoldering Crews Gap Fire and rekindled it into a fast moving wildfire which threatened Glen Cove from the southwest (shown in KOXE photo below). The Texas Forest Service and numerous Coleman County volunteer fire departments are working to bring the fire under control.

A cold front was moving through the region as of 8:00 pm Thursday. Wind will be gusty from the northwest at 15-25 all night and most of the day on Friday, affecting movement of the various fire complexes.
