William “Bill” Marshall Stovall, 91, of Brownwood, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022.

Funeral service will be held in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM, with interment to follow at Mt. View Cemetery north of Coleman, Texas with Doug Hurt officiating.

Bill was born November 18, 1930 in Silver Valley, Coleman County, Texas to Joe Barry and Anna May (Faries) Stovall.  He attended school in Silver Valley and married Joye Burton in November, 1950.  Bill and Joye were blessed with 4 children.  He coached his sons in little league baseball and was always a loving father involved in their lives.  Bill was a life long mason, Chart member of Cherry Heights Baptist Church of Clyde, Texas.  He married Ruth Wetsel and they were involved with Texas Baptist Men’s group building, repairing and maintaining churches and camps around the country.  Bill and Ruth traveled throughout the Unites States, Canada and Alaska with friends and fellow members of Sam’s club.  He worked in the oilfield with J.E. Cox for 21 years, Wes-Tex Drilling & Pride for a number of years as well.  His 2 favorite passions were square dancing and fishing.  They travelled with their square-dancing group regularly.  He held the record for the biggest catfish caught on trout line in the Colorado River at 65lbs.  Bill loved to set and run trot line, he was always looking for the big catfish.  He was known for his work ethic and passed that on in his Legacy to his children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his sons, Randy Stovall of Abilene, James Stovall of Abilene, daughter, Heidi Snell and husband, Lincoln of Weatherford; daughter-in-law, Brenda Stovall of Brownwood; stepchildren, Clift Watkins of Ballinger, Ealine Briley of San Angelo and Deanne Watkins of San Angelo; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Stovall; son, Joe Stovall; 2 grandsons, Marshall and Ethan Stovall; all 4 siblings, Beulah Couch, Annie Bea Wilkin, Fannie Faye Langehennig, J B Stovall; and his parents.
