A Brownwood woman and minor child died Sunday morning as a result of a car accident. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety preliminary report, the accident happened in Brown County, 3.7 miles south of Cross Plains on Highway 279 at 9:50 am on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Vehicle 1 was a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by Kendra L. Cowan, 41, of Brownwood.

Cowan and a minor child of Brownwood were deceased at the scene.

A passenger, Rachel Nandin, 42, of Brownwood, was taken to Hendrick Medical Center with stable/incapacitating injury. There was no data provided on another passenger, a minor child from Brownwood.

According to the DPS, the vehicle was traveling South on State Highway 279 when it veered right and into the ditch. The driver appears to have over-corrected to the left where the vehicle rolled over.

The crash is under investigation, according to the Texas DPS.
