A man from Merkel was killed in a three vehicle crash on Thursday morning. According to the preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck happened at 7:20 am on Interstate 20 at mile post 276 on Thursday, March 3rd.

Vehicle 1 was a 2022 Freightliner towing a trailer, driven by Lawrence D. Malone Jr., 48, of Caddo Mills. He was not injured.

Vehicle 2 was a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Jason D. Keubler, 46, of Merkel. He was killed in the accident.

Vehicle 3 was a 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by Jessica A. McGuire, 27, of Merkel.

According to the report, vehicle 1 was followed by vehicle 2 and were traveling toward the East on I-20 in the right lane and were preparing to exit I-20 due to a vehicle crash ahead. Vehicle 3, also traveling East, came up from behind and struck the back of vehicle 2, causing it to strike the back end of vehicle 1.

Seat belts were worn by all three drivers.  The crash remains under investigation.
