Weekly COVID Report – Cases Decrease, Five Deaths Reported

The weekly update on COVID-19 in Brown County was released late Friday morning, February 4th. There has been a substantial decrease this week in positive and active cases. Positive cases this week were 291, a decrease from 717 last week and from 1,108 two weeks ago, which was the peak number of positive cases in one week. Hospitalizations this week stands at 21, a reduction from 25 last week.

WEEKLY UPDATE:

In the last seven days, the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department received 291 positive COVID-19 test results.

Of the 291 positives this week, 137 were PCR, and 154 were antigen. Of the total number of cases reported this week, 84 cases met the breakthrough definition. This includes asymptomatic, mild symptoms, and severe symptom breakthrough cases.  There are 21 people currently hospitalized in Brown County for COVID-19.

Five new deaths have been reported this week: one male in his 50s, one female in her 60s from a nursing facility, one male in his 70s from a nursing facility, one female in her 80s, and another female in her 80s from a nursing facility.

The Brownwood-Brown County Health Department is offering COVID testing at their clinic located at 510 E. Lee Street. Testing is by appointment only. If you need to be tested for COVID, please do not walk into the clinic. Testing will be conducted at your vehicle in the parking lot. Due to the increased demand for testing, it may take a day or two to schedule an appointment with the Health Department. Other testing options are your local primary care physician, urgent care clinics, and pharmacies. Please be patient as staff attempt to serve the high volume of calls and requests for service at this time.

COVID-19 Vaccinations for Brown County:

  • People with at least one dose – 17,446
  • People fully vaccinated –  15,534
  • Boosters administered – 5,180
  • Percentage of people 5+ fully vaccinated – 43.02%

The Brownwood-Brown County Health Department is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations to all youth ages 5 years or older and adults age 18 years old or older. Vaccination boosters are also available.
