Residents of Brown County, and the entire KOXE listening area, should prepare for a significant winter storm arriving this coming Wednesday, February 2, and continuing into the weekend.

According to KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner, arctic air, sleet and freezing rain and snow are forecast to combine to cause icy conditions Wednesday night into Thursday morning. With temperatures forecast to remain below freezing from Wednesday evening through Saturday (2/5), any ice will stick around a few days.

Roads are expected to become hazardous by Wednesday night.  Accumulating ice on power lines may lead to power outages. Ice may snap tree limbs. High temperatures in the 20’s are in the forecast Thursday with low temperatures possibly dipping to near 10 degrees or colder Thursday night and again Friday night.  Wind chills in the single digits should be expected Thursday and Friday.

Bottom line, now is the time to plan and prepare. Prepare to have a few days of extra water and food on hand, alternate power source if possible, extra firewood ready to go, properly insulated outdoor faucets and pipes.  Watch for more detailed video weather forecasts on KOXE.com Monday.
