Local Covid Hospitalizations Increase to 15 / Seven Deaths Reported

The Friday, January 21 COVID-19 update from the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department shows 1,746 active cases and 15 local hospitalizations. Cases increased for the fifth week in a row.  The full report is below.

In the last seven days, the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department received 1,108 positive COVID-19 test results. Of the 1,108 positives this week, 318 were PCR, and 790 were antigen. Of the total number of cases reported this week, 261 cases met the breakthrough definition. This includes asymptomatic, mild symptoms, and severe symptom breakthrough cases.  There are 15 people currently hospitalized in Brown County for COVID-19.  Seven new deaths have been reported this week: two males in their 60s, one male in his 70s, one female in her 80s, one female in her 90s from a nursing facility, and two males in their 90s.

The Brownwood-Brown County Health Department is offering COVID testing at their clinic located at 510 E. Lee Street. Testing is by appointment only. If you need to be tested for COVID, please do not walk into the clinic. Testing will be conducted at your vehicle in the parking lot. Due to the increased demand for testing, it may take a day or two to schedule an appointment with the Health Department. Other testing options are your local primary care physician, urgent care clinics, and pharmacies. Please be patient with us as we attempt to serve the high volume of calls and requests for service at this time.

COVID-19 Vaccinations for Brown County:

  • People with at least one dose – 17,303
  • People fully vaccinated –  15,384
  • Boosters administered – 4,950
  • Percentage of people 5+ fully vaccinated – 42.61%

The Brownwood-Brown County Health Department is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations to all youth ages 5 years or older and adults age 18 years old or older. Vaccination boosters are also available.
