Brown County Sheriff’s Report

On Friday, January 14, Deputy Toby Mathis responded to Vick Dr. for a report of sexual assault. Information was gathered and a report was made.

On Saturday, January 15, Deputy Toby Mathis, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Elizabeth Dr. and Parkway Dr. The driver was placed in custody for Driving While License Invalid. Narcotics were located in the vehicle. The passenger was placed in custody for Possession of Controlled Substance. A report was made.

On Saturday, January 15 at approximately 6:37 a.m., Deputy Nicolas A. Wood, was notified of a criminal mischief offense, which had occurred the night prior at CR321. An investigation was conducted.

On Saturday, January 15, Deputy Toby Mathis spoke with a complainant in reference to stolen property. Information was gathered and a report was made.

On Saturday, January 15, Sgt. Andre Smoot was dispatched to missing bull call. While on scene, it was discovered a bull was missing from the property and also an unknown bull was now on the property. A report was completed, and an attempt is being made to retrieve the unknown discovered bull.

On Saturday, January 15 at around 7:24 p.m. Deputy Carlyle Gover arrived at Ave C. This was in reference to a non-active burglary. After speaking to the complainant, and attempting to locate the missing items, the complainant was trespassed from a Brin Street address from the alleged suspect. When returning to the Ave C address, the complainant advised her son assaulted her and fled the scene before Deputy Gover arrived. After attempting to locate the son, Deputy Gover served the trespass warning and reports were made.

On Tuesday, January 18 at about 4:19 a.m. Deputy Byron Langley, was in route to FM 2126. This was in regard to a stolen vehicle. Langley was advised by dispatch the victim had called stating someone had drove off with his white two door Chevrolet pickup, heading towards Early. Langley was driving on W Commerce, and at about the intersection of W Commerce and Austin Ave, Langley located a vehicle matching the stolen vehicle. Langley turned the patrol vehicle around and attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle acted like it was going to stop. Then it drove off at a high rate of speed driving through the Stripes parking lot onto Belle Plain driving northbound at a high rate of speed. Langley followed the vehicle with my lights and siren. The vehicle then turned onto Walnut Street and accelerated, wrecking through a gate, and driving into a pasture near Walnut. Langley observed a white male wearing brown overalls exit the driver side door and began running. Langley used my patrol vehicle to stop the suspect from running, by pinning the suspect against the fence. Deputy Scotty Burke handcuffed the suspect and a syringe was located on the suspect, which later field tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputy Burke transported the suspect to Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood, and the suspect was medically cleared. The suspect was transported to the Brown County Jail and released to the jail staff. The suspect was charged with Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention W/Vehicle, and Poss of CS PG1 <1G. I was also advised by dispatch the suspect had two warrants.

On Tuesday, January 18, Deputy Chris Angel responded to the Brown County Jail. This was in reference to a credit card and a debit card located in an inmate’s property.  After further investigation, it was determined the cards did not belong to the inmate.  An investigation is underway.

On Tuesday, January 18 at 4:26 p.m. Sgt Jayson Bastardo was dispatch to CR 334 in Blanket. This was in regard to an unwanted person. The complainant advised dispatch a male subject was on scene, damaging property. Upon arrival, contact was made with the complainant. Information was gathered and a report was taken.

On Tuesday, January 18 at about 5:09 p.m,, Deputy Byron Langley, arrived at the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center located at W Commerce in Brownwood, TX. This was in regard to an inmate attempting to damage the locks in the jail. Langley spoke to Cpl. Stephanie Chapman who stated she had been advised by Jailer Russell Pierce an inmate had placed a plastic spork into the lock of his cell in an attempt to damage the lock.

On Wednesday, January 19 at around 5:21 p.m., Deputy Carlyle Gover responded to N 279. This was in reference to two storage buildings being burglarized. After further investigation, a report was made.
