George was born May 22, 1929, to Mart and Mable (Nix) Rodgers.
He graduated from Rochelle High School and went to college for two years at Tarleton State University.
George married Catherine Vander Ven on October 12, 1951. U.S Army veteran -served in the Korean War. After serving in the Army, George returned to the job he loved – ranching until the day he retired. For many years, George and Catherine were active as 4-H Leaders and George coached the rifle team for many years. They were married for 39 years. Catherine preceded him in death on September 7, 1990.
George married Barbara Dagen on May 13, 1996. They were married for 25 years. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2021.
Hobbies – loved to hunt arrowheads, fish, hunt and go bowling.
George was fondly remembered by the grandkids as Daddy George.
George was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rebecca Sorrells and one grandson, John Samuel Dagen.
He is survived by three daughters, Deleta Brindley and husband Gary of Brownwood, Dianne Mays and husband Glennon of College Station, Linda Morris and husband Carl of Rochelle, one son, Jimmy Rodgers of Dublin, two stepsons, Larry Dagen and wife Pauline of Cedar Hill and John Dagen of Brady, and one sister, Mary Ann Swenning of Midlothian. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Craig McDonald, Rod Cavness, Kody Morris, Toby Morris, Brendon Morris and Dorman Pitcox.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, 2:00 PM at the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ with Virgil Webb, officiating. Graveside immediately following at the Rochelle Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to McCulloch County 4-H.
