The late Christopher Allen Sawders was honored Monday morning by being named the Brown County First Responder of the Year 2021.
Chris Sawders was hired on November 29, 2019 as a Jailer for the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. Described as a hard working and dedicated employee, Chris was always willing to help out and come in when needed. In August 2021, Chris was exposed to the Covid-19 virus while performing his duties as a jailer. Chris ultimately lost his battle and passed on September 24, 2021.
Christopher’s widow, Marsha, and her brother Timothy, were present as the recognition was given by County Judge Dr. Paul Lilly.
“Christopher Sawders was a good man and a true hero. He never had a second thought about the risks and dangers that he was exposed to as a result of his duties as a jailer. His first priority was always the safety of the inmates, co-workers and the public. May his dedication to Brown County never be forgotten.”
North Lake Community Church also presented Marsha with a $100 gift card to United Supermarket and offered their sincere thanks for the service and commitment of Christopher Allan Sawders.
