Roxie Charlene Brown, 75, of Brownwood

Roxie Charlene Brown, known to many as Meme, passed away Saturday, January 1st, 2022 at the age of 75 surrounded by her family. Roxie was born September 21st, 1946 in De Queen, AR to Albert and Andrea Woodrum.

Roxie has been a maternal figure her entire life, starting as a young girl and the eldest child she played a large role in raising her brother and sister. She became a loving mother in 1966 with the birth of her daughter Laura. Roxie married the love of her life Porter “Wayne” Brown in 1968 and together raised Larry, Beverly, and Laura.

As the wife of Wayne, a man in the oil industry, Roxie had the opportunity to live in and visit places all over the world, including Iran, Singapore, Dhabi, and many European and Asian Countries.

Roxie has served as a mother, a grandmother, and a confidant for anyone who needs the love, advice, or guidance that only a wise and loving matriarch can provide.

Roxie lived the last 32 years of her life in Brownwood, TX and is best known as ‘Meme’, ‘The Corndog 7 Lady’ or the ‘Mall Grandma’ as she ran Corn Dog 7 in Heartland Mall for almost 20 years. Roxie never met a stranger and would selflessly help anyone in need. She impacted countless lives during her time on earth and will be missed by all.

Roxie has been blessed with a large family and even larger bonus family. She is survived by her sister Jonna Burkes and husband Jerry of Lake Brownwood, TX; a cousin who was like her sister, Dorothy Bone of Paradise, Texas, step-son Larry Brown and wife Susan of Plano, TX; step-daughter Beverly Grey and husband Michael of Tulsa, OK; son-in-law Michael Perez of Brownwood, TX, former son-in-law Michael McWhirter and wife Lorie of Brownwood, TX. Seven grandchildren: Aaron Brown and wife Lauren of Allen, TX; Alyssa Throckmorton and husband Quin of Memphis, TN; DeWayne Grey of Tulsa, OK; Joseph McWhirter and wife Erika of Augusta, GA; Sarah Cumba and husband Jarritt of Bangs, TX; Elizabeth Behlen and husband Michael of Merkel, TX; and Alexandrea Perez of Brownwood, TX. Two nephews: Josh Burkes of Brownwood, TX; and Jay Burkes and wife Rhonda of Brownwood, TX. Several great grandchildren along with many other family members and friends.

Roxie is reunited with her husband, Wayne Brown, her brother Frankie Woodrum, and her daughter Laura McWhirter, all whom preceded her in death.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2021, at the Heritage Funeral Home, Davis-Morris Chapel.  Friends and family are encouraged to view the online memorial at www.heritagefuneraltx.com.
