Gloria (Solis) Rocha, 87, of Brownwood

Gloria Rocha, age 87, of Brownwood passed away peacefully on December 7, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Services for Gloria will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownwood with Father Bkaskar Mendem officiating; burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with the rosary at 7, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Gloria was born on December 20, 1933, to Manuel and Josefa (Arizpe) Solis, in Villa Union, Cochuila, Mexico. She married Julian Vargas in December 1953, in Mexico and together they had 14 children. Gloria then married Pablo Rocha in January 1989, in Mexico. She spent majority of her life in Mexico, then moved to Eagle Pass and lived there for several years before moving to Brownwood in early 2000 to be closer to her children.

Gloria had a green thumb; she loved her garden and plants. She had multiple fruit trees she planted and took care, along with an array of vegetables in her garden. Additionally, Gloria loved to cook, especially tamales, empanadas, menudo, and her salsa.

Gloria is survived by her children: Ricardo Vargas and wife Minerva of Brownwood, Julian Vargas, Jr. and wife Guadalupe of Brownwood, Blanca Galaviz and husband, Jose of Brownwood, Pedro Solis of Brownwood, Pablo Vargas of Brownwood, Juan Solis and wife Maribel of Brownwood, Gloria Chapa and husband Luis of Brownwood, Rosa Corona and husband Cesar of Andrews, Miguel Vargas and Lily of Brownwood, Dagoberto Vargas of Brownwood, Asalia Rodriguez and husband Pedro of Brownwood, Jorge Vargas and wife Nora of Brownwood; 46 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Gregorio Solis; 4 sisters, Olga Lopez, Guadalupe Mares, Rosa Castañeda, and Juanita Vazquez; and close cousin that grew up like a sister to her, Guadalupe Solis Gutierrez. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Josefa; husbands, Julian Vargas and Pablo Rocha; son, Eleazar Vargas, along with an infant child, Isaias; and 3 brothers, Francisco Solis, Arturo Solis, and Fructoso Solis.
