Dorothy McDonald, age 82, of Coleman, died Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Mitchell, pastor of Concho Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
She was born Dorothy Elkin on January 2, 1939, in Coleman to Ralph Elkin and Irene Grace Taylor Elkin. Dorothy grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. She married Gerald Glen McDonald on September 5, 1959, in Coleman. With this union came two children, Ricky, and Sandra. Dorothy worked at Coleman County State Bank for 42 years. She was an expert in the daily operations of the bank while making life-long friends. After retirement, Dorothy worked at Stevens Funeral Home as a greeter.
Dorothy was an avid 42 player, winning and sitting at the head table. She was a master cook and could cook anything to perfection. Dorothy also enjoyed making ceramics and sewing. She enjoyed volunteering for the Coleman County Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary where she currently served as treasurer and volunteering for the Coleman County Humane Society.
Dorothy was a life-long resident of Coleman where she had many friends. She enjoyed her breakfast time with the fun bunch at Owl Drug Store, attending the Coleman Senior Citizens Center, making meals for Concho Baptist Church, or running errands with her best friend Melba. Her most cherished moments were spending time with her children and being “Gramby” to her grandchildren. Dorothy supported all their endeavors and loved them deeply. Her kindness and giving spirit will be deeply missed.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph, and Irene Elkin; her husband, Gerald Glen McDonald; and two brothers, Leeroy Elkin and Tommy Elkin.
She is survived by her children, Ricky McDonald and wife Michelle of Abilene and Sandra Wells and husband Steven of Sweetwater; two grandchildren, Tamatha Vinson and husband Caleb of Lake Conroe and Channing Riggins and husband Rowdy of Leander; one great-grandson, Xander Vinson of Lake Conroe; and one brother, Elmer Elkin of Abilene.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Vinson, Rowdy Riggins, Sherman Smith, Terry McDonald, Mike McDonald, and Kyle Wood.
