Lady Jackets Lose to Sul Ross State

Howard Payne University’s Catlyn Ward posted a career high 19 points in a Lady Jackets 78-60 loss at Sul Ross State University Thursday evening in conference action.

HPU’s Catlyn Ward was 4 of 5 from behind the arc and 7 of 9 overall from the field for the Lady Jackets for a new career high of 19 points.

The Lady Jackets struggled from the field in the game hitting just 33.9% of their shots. HPU was also 9 of 29 (31.0%) from behind the arc and 9 of 16 (56.3%) from the free-throw line in the game.

With the Lady Jackets leading 10-7 at the start of the game, the Lobos used an 11-0 run to gain a lead that caused HPU to play from behind the rest of the game.

Following Catlyn’s Ward’s 19 points was Chelsey Harris’ 14 points and five rebounds. Bria Neal had nine points and seven rebounds, and Elaina Buchanan grabbed a game high nine rebounds.

Sul Ross was led by Vania Hampton with 21 points and nine rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play. Sul Ross stands at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next on Nov. 20th at D-I Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. It will be a 1:00 pm start time.
