Samuel Elliott Hays, IV age 78, of Lohn, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in San Angelo, Texas.

Sam was born March 19, 1943 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Samuel Elliott Hays and Clara Jane (Harris) Hays.  He attended Texas Tech University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Ag Engineering.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam War.  He was a member of the Lohn Valley Improvement Association, the Marion Cemetery Association and the Lohn Baptist Church.  He ranched all of his life on the family ranch, which has been in the family since 1879.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, drafting, inventing, creating, building and taking apart different things to see how they worked.  He also enjoyed helping his neighbors, visiting with friends and taking care of his animals and raising border collies.  He was a lifelong resident of the community.

Graveside services for Samuel Elliott Hays, IV will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Marion Cemetery with Terry Doyle officiating.  Friends may view and/or sign Sam’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.

Sam is survived by his son David Hays and wife Laura of San Angelo, Texas; daughters Jennifer Hays of Lohn, Texas and Amanda Hays of San Angelo, Texas and grandson Eli Michael Millford.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Susan Jane Hays.  Memorial contributions in memory of Samuel Elliott Hays, IV may be made to Lohn Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
