Connie “Skeebo” Martin Norris age 70, of San Saba, Texas passed away on October 9, 2021 in Lakeway, Texas. Skeebo was born in Plainview, Texas to C.M. and Bobbye Norris on April 2, 1951; they resided in Floydada, Texas. In 1953 the family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. He then graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1969. While attending High School he was a member of the cross country and track team. He earned his badge as an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Thunderbird Indian Dancers.
He attended New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Animal Science in 1974. While attending college he flourished in the rodeo arena riding bulls and bareback horses. He was a member of the NIRA and NMRA, during his time he worked for the High Pro Feed and Halliday Rodeo Company.
Skeebo resided most of his early life in Carlsbad, NM with his three daughters. During this time he worked at the potash mines, bus barn, Ballard Trucks, Hall Machine and taught at the NMSU Carlsbad branch. He owned Southwest Championship Rodeo Company producing numerous rodeos throughout New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. He was known for his Sunday afternoon buck outs where he instructed many young men how to ride bulls and horses. He organized and managed Eddy County Rough Riders and Pitchin’ on the Pecos Bull Riding.
Skeebo held his PRCA judging and announcing card from the early 1990’s to present. His fervor for entertaining led him to becoming a disc jockey at a radio station in Ruidoso, NM. In 2002 he married Shirley they lived in SE New Mexico until 2006 when they moved to San Saba, Texas. He then began managing as well as being the disc jockey at the local radio station. Upon his retirement in 2016 he started his own radio station, SanSabaRadio.com. He enjoyed broadcasting games and interacting with the youth of San Saba County.
His passions were family, rodeo, classic country and western swing music. He loved the Lord and always stated, “I talk to God everyday and it doesn’t have to be in a building.” If you were ever lucky enough to be in the presence of him announcing a rodeo, you would know that the opening ceremony always consisted of prayer, the national anthem and a tribute to our veterans.
He is preceded in death by CM, Norris, Bobbye Norris and Jon Norris.
Skeebo is survived by Shirley Norris, Jill (Bryan) Smith, Beth (Wendell) Walker, Kasi (Klay) Harris, Kim (Scott) Solis and Shelley (Jeff) Presley;
Sister; Katrina (Bill) Waters; grandchildren; Wren and Koel Smith; Mimi, Tayber and Jena Walker; Ryder Harris; Christopher (Dalis) Solis and
daughter Charlotte, Hailey Solis; Jordan Hughes, Chase Settles, Brooke and Blake Presley; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the San Saba Civic Center.
In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Skeebo Norris.
