BROWNWOOD – The Howard Payne University women’s soccer team tied 2-2 with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in double overtime Saturday afternoon at Citizen’s National Bank Soccer field.
Katie Burnside scored the first goal of the afternoon on an assist from Kendra Cecil and Caitlyn Hernandez in the 31st minute to give the Lady Jackets the 1-0 lead at the halfway mark.
Lindsey Schiller scored in the 58th minute to give Howard Payne the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Jacket defense held off the Cru until the 62nd minute of the match. UMHB scored again in the 69th minute to ultimately send the match into overtime.
Neither team was able to score in 20 minutes of overtime. The final result was a 2-2 draw.
Delaney Castor played on 90 minutes in goal for HPU, allowed two goals, and recorded 24 saves.
Howard Payne will take on McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, on Thursday, Oct. 14th at 5 PM.
