Football Previews Brownwood, Early, Bangs

It’s another Friday night of football and key district games will be played.

BROWNWOOD – At Gordon Wood Stadium, the Brownwood Lions will have their work cut out for them as No. 10 Midlothian Heritage rolls into town for a 7:30 pm contest. Heritage’s only loss this season came at the hands at now No. 1 Melissa, a 48-28 decision in Week 4. The Jaguars have tallied wins against Everman (50-23), Kennedale (22-7), Decatur (48-14), and Springtown (49-13).

The Lions are coming off a 49-21 loss at 5A Division II Abilene Wylie and have also dropped contests to 4A Division II No. 2 China Spring (56-21) and Midland Greenwood (21-20). Brownwood has knocked off Lampasas (58-55) and Burnet (31-26), with both wins this season coming at Gordon Wood Stadium.

TUSCOLA – Two undefeated teams square off in Tuscola tonight.  The Early Longhorns will face the No. 1 Jim Ned Indians.  Jim Ned – with wins over Ballinger (42-7), Sweetwater (56-14), Eastland (48-20), Cisco (28-14), and Snyder (22-15) – enters the contest averaging 39 points and 415 yards per game, with 291 of those yards coming on the ground.  Early – which has knocked off Bangs (48-12), Tolar (33-16), Comanche (58-14), Merkel (48-13) and Grape Creek (49-0) – counters with a defense that yields 11 points and 207 yards per game, 112 rushing and 95 passing, with 16 takeaways.

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons welcome the Grape Creek Eagles to Memorial Stadium for Homecoming.  Game time is 7:00 pm and, if you can’t be there, you can listen to the game on KBWD 1380 AM. The season for Bangs (0-4, 0-0) thus far has featured setbacks against Early (48-12), Florence (45-14), Hamilton (62-21) and Hawley (54-0). Meanwhile, Grape Creek (1-4, 0-0) collected a 50-22 win over San Angelo TLCA but has fallen to Stanton (21-7), Christoval (55-7), Coleman (49-0) and Early (49-0).
