The Coleman Livestock Auction Company has marketed cattle for producers in Central and West Texas for six decades.  But, on Wednesday morning,  a change of ownership was announced prior to the start of the weekly cattle sale.

Bob Edington, owner, announced the sale of the local auction barn to John and Christi Robertson of Coleman.  The Robertson’s will begin operation of the facility on October 1.  Their first sale will be Wednesday, October 6, which is also the Roundup for Rehab sale to benefit the West Texas Rehab Center.

For 60 years, Coleman Livestock Auction Commission Company was owned and operated by the Edington family. Duwayne and Bobbie Edington built the facility in 1961 with Cecil Sellers helping start the operation.  Duwayne, widely recognized for his auctioneering skills, operated the facility for 32 years.  Bob has operated the auction for the past 28 years.

“We appreciate everyone who was a part of this and we’re so proud that another local family is taking over,” said Sylvia Edington.  “We support John and Christi 100 percent and have faith they’ll do a good job,” Sylvia said.

John and Christi Robertson have been residents of Coleman County since 2004 and have been active in the community.  John retired from the Arlington, Texas Fire Department in May of this year.  The Robertson’s have also operated a landscaping business in the DFW.

“It’s been a long dream of mine to own a sale barn,” John said, noting his background in the cattle business.  “We’re not changing much.  The name will be Coleman Livestock Auction, LLC, “ John said.

What’s next for Bob and Sylvia?  “We’re not leaving Coleman,” Sylvia said.  Bob added “We’re going to continue to be in the cattle business.  I’ll be a buyer and seller at this sale barn every week.”
