Allen Lynn Thate passed peacefully into Heaven Friday evening, September 17, 2021, in Hamilton, Texas.
Allen was born on March 8, 1963, to Hugh (Red) and Lonell (Nell) Thate in Coleman, Texas. He attended Santa Anna High School and lived his entire life in Coleman County, except for the last few years when he resided in Hamilton with his family. He worked in the oilfield with his dad, then doing carpentry, discovering he had a talent for woodworking. For several years he owned a lawn care business in Santa Anna. He was very proud of the work he performed and enjoyed making his customers’ yards look beautiful.
Allen loved to hunt, fish, take a back road, drink beer, and have fun. He was an avid prankster and loved to make people laugh. He loved music and all animals. His greatest loves were his children and God. Allen was a Baptist and cherished the relationship he had with “the man upstairs.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents, Fred and Maude Shields, and his paternal grandmother, Jessie Thate. He was also preceded in death by his best friend, Big Boy.
Allen is survived by his son, Keith Thate; four daughters, Angela Newton and husband Ethan, Shanna Willborn, Christina Donham, and Tiffany Carroll and husband Tim. Thirteen grandchildren, Harlie and Shelby Thate, Cayden Sellers and Eli Newton, Jason and Kyle Loeser, Laci Donham, Gilbert, Christian, Jaden, and Anthony Espitia, Austin Carroll, and Courtney Weichert and husband Daniel; and two great grandchildren, Elijah and Easton Weichert.
The family will host a visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery.
