ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University football team scored over 40 points for the second straight week in a 42-36 victory at McMurry University Saturday afternoon..
It was a 41 yard TD reception for HPU’s Casey Dufner from Nick Infante that sealed the game for the Yellow Jackets with under two minutes to play. The touchdown came with 1:20 remaining in the game giving Howard Payne a 42-29 advantage over McMurry.
Tauren Bradley led the HPU ground attack with 136 yards on 24 carries. Stephen Willis followed with 64 yards on 10 carries.
HPU quarterback Landon McKinney was 12 of 24 for 309 yards, four TDs, and one interception. Nick Infante finished 1 of 1 passing, a touchdown to Casey Dufner. Infante also rushed for one TD from three yards out.
Jake Parker had five receptions for 170 yards and one TD. Selah Smith and Otis Lanier each had touchdown receptions for the Jackets.
Peyton Lowe led the HPU defense with seven tackles followed by Dai’Shawn Fisher with five. Otis Lanier picked off a pass late in the game to set up the Yellow Jacket victory.
The Jacket defense held the War Hawks to just 81 total rushing yards. McMurry did pass for 461 total yards in the game.
The Yellow Jackets will take on Hendrix College next Saturday at 6:00 pm in Prosper, Texas. The neutral site game will be at Children’s Health Stadium.
