The City of Brownwood is estimated to receive $4.5 million in two payments as part of the American Rescue Plan Act.  In session Tuesday morning, the Brownwood City Council heard from city staff and approved, pending review of the contract, adopting a Resolution awarding an administration contract to Public Management.

The City has an ongoing relationship with Public Management, a company with extensive knowledge of regulations and procedures of federal programs.

“With all federal grants there are significant hoops and documentation that must be completed.  What we recommended today to the Council was to engage with a grant management firm who can make sure that we are providing all the proper documentation that, in the event there are any audits, that we will not have any findings,” said City Manager, Emily Crawford.  The City does not have a grant administrator on staff.

Cost to the City is not to exceed $190,000 which calculates to just over 4% of the allocated amount or an estimated cost of $63,000 over three years.

“We feel like having someone that is very familiar with this particular grant would be beneficial to the city and the citizens, that we’re using the funds properly, accurately and that we, in the future, will not have any regrets of any decisions we have made locally,” Crawford added.
