Gary Don was born February 18, 1946, to B.R. “Ray” Lancaster and Lota Inez (Wagnon) Lancaster in Brownwood.  Gary Don grew up in May and graduated from May High School in 1964.  He loved to farm, and his favorite equipment was a John Deere tractor.  Gary refused to have peanut rows that were not straight and has been known to plow them up and redo them before planting. He retired from Superior Essex after working there 50 years.  He was one of the first employees hired after Superior Essex, originally Superior Cable, opened in 1964.

He enjoyed eating breakfast at J&H Station and catching up on the news every morning.  Gary could fix anything he set his mind to. He loved hanging out with the bunch at the deer lease.  He looked forward to dove season every year even though he usually gave any dove he shot away.

Gary Don was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Nell Lancaster; son, Dudley; brothers, Carleton and Ronnie; sister, Anne Reynolds; and granddaughter, Brittany Grove.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Johnnie Sue Lancaster of May; his 2 children,  Wendy Grove and husband Jeffrey of May, Tonya Maultsby and husband Gary of May;  6 grandchildren, Cody Lancaster and wife Taylor of Boerne, Sloan Sadler and husband Aaron of Bangs, Cameron King of May, Hayden Maultsby of Abilene, Johnna Maultsby of May, and Amanda Grove of Houston; one great-granddaughter, Everleigh Sadler of Bangs; sister, Nelda Crawford and husband C.M. of Lampasas; and sisters-in-law, Linda Lancaster of May, Patsy Whittington and husband Lynn of Granbury.
