Kathryn Elizabeth Turnell, age 102, of San Marcos, Texas and formerly of Brady, Texas passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021 in San Marcos, Texas.  Kathryn was born October 18, 1918 in Hughes Springs, Texas to William Harvey Wakefield and Zona (Nelson) Wakefield.  With 2 brothers and 2 sisters, the family moved to McCulloch County, the heart of Texas, when the children were young.  She graduated from Rochelle High School and married Lee Walker Turnell on October 23, 1937 in Winchell, Texas.  They were married 68 years when Lee Walker passed away in 2006.  She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her children and grandchildren.  She canned and froze the produce of her garden and was known for her pies and Christmas candy.  She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and meeting with church ladies to make peanut brittle.  She was a lifelong McCulloch county resident.  She served the community as an election judge for many years and she was a long-time member of the United Pentecostal Church in Brady.  The last 4 ½ years of her life Kathryn lived at Cypress Healthcare & Rehab Center and attended PromiseLand Church in San Marcos, where she gained many new and very close friends.  The last two years she was a patient of Heart to Heart Hospice.  We give great thanks to Nurse Sandi Gray, Chaplain Michael Bartley and SW Steve for all their love and attentiveness.  Through her life she was a beloved daughter, wife and mother; volunteer and follower of Jesus.

Funeral services for Kathryn Elizabeth Turnell will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Pastor Robin Steele officiating.  Interment will follow at the Placid Cemetery in Placid.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

Kathryn is survived by her daughters Kay Carroll and husband Robert and Kathy Steele and husband Rob; grandchildren Darla Fletcher, Dan Carroll, Lori Lowery and Robin Steele; great-grandchildren Shanna Dyson, Christopher Carroll, Brittany Carroll, Kathryn Carroll, Brady Carroll, Jessebeth Lowery, Hudson Lowery, Mabel Lowery, Kennady Steele, Jude Steele, Avery Steele, Walker Carroll and Wyatt Carroll and great-great-grandchildren Jacoby Dyson, Kinsley Rodriguez and Jacqueline Carroll.  She is preceded in death by her husband, 3 brothers and one sister.  Memorial contributions in memory of Kathryn Elizabeth Turnell may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, % Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation, 7240 Chase Oaks Blvd, Plano, Texas 75025 or www.htohhfoundation.org or call 1-855-HEART26 and/or the Tupelo Children’s Mansion, P.
