Jennifer Petross, age 51, of Coleman ascended to Heaven Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Jennifer was born to Janniece Chambers and the late Thomas Petross on February 27, 1970 in Brownwood. She grew up in May and enjoyed playing sports and cheerleading while in school. Throughout her life she lived in various central Texas cities. In Austin, Jennifer worked for the University of Texas and the Austin Community College. She was able to complete several college courses during this time.
Jennifer spent her last several years residing in Coleman and enjoyed taking trips out to the country farm near Blanket. Jennifer had many talents that kept her busy including keeping a well-manicured yard, clothing alterations, repairs, patchwork, and working on odd projects and helping her friends. She also had other hobbies to include, playing with her pets and the “granddogs”, diamond painting, and spending time with family.
She was known to her grandsons as “Mama J” and was also known as “Granny” to KylaJo, her only granddaughter. Jennifer loved her family deeply and made sure to tell them often, she left a note recently on the fridge, “Love you, Momma.”
Jennifer had a generous and loving spirit to her family and community. She was good at reminding others of the good times of the past and seemed to have an infectious laugh that was the most memorable.
Jennifer once wrote in a letter to her mother, “Remember in winter months how beautiful a redbird looks? This is a fallen world. It’s up to each of us to keep in mind that Jesus wins and we have to try to be that beautiful redbird for someone else to see.” This describes Jennifer’s outlook on life, being the light for someone else to see even in the midst of despair, that at times, we all face in life.
Jennifer is survived by Steve Tate; 3 daughters, Heather Jess Woody, Jodey Woody, and Alexis Petross; 4 grandchildren, Guillermo Ortiz, Martin Ortiz, Levi Ortiz, and KylaJo; her mother, Janniece Chambers; 3 sisters, Yvonne Wisdom and husband Pat, Cathy Petross, and Tammy Walker and husband Matt. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
