GEORGE STANLEY WEIK, known to us as Stan, was born October 10, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas. Stan left this world to go home to our Lord on May 14, 2021. Throughout his years he lived in many areas of Texas, but he called San Saba home where he served as City Manager since December 2007. Stan brought many God-given talents and years of experience to San Saba and felt privileged to have the opportunity to put these skills to use in this beautiful town. Stan was an amazing, loving, kind and generous husband to Joanne. They lived their 25 years of marriage as partners, best friends and soul mates doing everything together. He was so immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished being a father and grandfather. He loved watching his children blossom into adult hood and sharing in the lives of his grandchildren. Stan was forever grateful for the love and acceptance given to him by the Wallace Family as their son and brother. He was so pleased to be accepted in the Fertitta family as a valuable member, not just an in-law. Stan was truly blessed when God planted him in the lives of the Wallace’s and the Fertitta’s. Stan graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 and received a Master of Public Administration from Madison University. He served his country as a United State Army Medical Service Corp First Lieutenant. Stan was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and proud to be a Knight of Columbus. He held other offices and memberships to include: Past President and Emeritus Board of Keep Texas Beautiful; Member of Keep America Beautiful and Keep San Saba Beautiful; Member of The Texas A&M Association of Former Students; Member of National Rifle Association; Member of Texas City Management Association and the Texas Downtown Association. Stan devoted his energy to the causes served by his favorite groups and has been recognized for his contributions with several awards to include the
- Presidential Volunteer Life-Time Service Award (President George W. Bush)
- The Keep America Beautiful Iron Eyes Cody Award (highest honor in the nation)
- Keep America Beautiful Individual Leadership Award
- Keep Texas Beautiful-Sadie Ray Graff Award
- 2020 Texas Downtown Association Susan H. Campbell Award for Professional Excellence
Stan came from humble beginnings and always felt his self-determination, self-motivation, and his belief that “failure is not an option” lead him to accomplish his goals. He credits God with his successes and reminded us to “get right with God and to put Him first in all that you do”.
Stan left this world to go home to our Lord on May 14, 2021. He is survived by his wife Joanne, children Paul and Amanda Higgs, Leigh and James Johnston, Erick and Lauren Weik, Karl Weik and fiancé Jessica Bendele; and 9 grandchildren. Stan also leaves behind to keep his memory alive his brother, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and cousins; the City Team he called family and a host of good friends.

Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, May 18, from 4 to 8 pm at San Saba Civic Center. Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio.
