Congratulations to our May 2021 Spotlight teacher, Chelsea Garcia. Ms. Garcia is a kindergarten teacher at East Elementary. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Education degree in Instructional Leadership from Howard Payne University. She is a certified teacher holding a professional license for teaching core subjects (EC-6th) and a principal certification (EC-12th). Ms. Garcia served as both a long-term substitute and a certified tutor at East Elementary before becoming a full-time teacher there in 2016.
Ms. Garcia is a hard worker, not only for her students, but for her kindergarten team, her school, and the district’s English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) program. She puts in endless extra hours along with her co-workers to ensure that her team and students are taken care of.
Brownwood ISD is blessed to have teachers like Ms. Garcia who go above and beyond by dedicating extra time for the success of her students and school.
Our Staff Spotlight honoree is Glenda Cotton. Ms. Cotton is a Special Education Aide working at Brownwood Middle School (BMS). She is a TEA certified educational aide and also holds a paraprofessional certification. She began with the district as a bus driver in 1995. In 2009 she was hired as a Life Skills Aide and also served as an ISS Aide before moving into her current position in 2017.
Ms. Cotton is known as one of the “go-to” people at BMS who will do anything needed and then volunteers to do even more. She works with students who need extra help understanding assignments or those who might be having a difficult day. Ms. Cotton will help any student needing academic assistance but especially shines with behaviorally challenged students. She knows many of the parents and families in and around Brownwood, which is part of her magic. Ms. Cotton always has a funny story or memory to share with a student that helps them feel heard, understood, and even laugh. Ms. Cotton shares her love for all BMS students by encouraging them to be successful and by holding them accountable through setting high expectations and helping them to make good choices.
Brownwood ISD is thankful for Ms. Cotton and her work helping so many of our students grow and flourish each year.
